Cost reaches a project's ledger when goods are invoiced or issued. Before that, the money is already promised on purchase orders. The project overview shows that promise as Committed, by task.
Where to see it
Open the project. Under Cost by task, the Committed column shows, for each task, the value of open purchase-order lines charged to it. The total committed is noted under the figures at the top.
What counts
Purchase-order lines charged to the project (and task), net of discount.
Orders not yet completed, including orders waiting for approval. Rejected orders do not count.
With receipt-first buying, a line stops counting as it is received: what came in is no longer a promise.
Common questions
Why does the committed value not drop when I issue stock? Issuing uses stock already bought. Commitments follow purchase orders only.
Does the budget compare with commitments? The budget compares with posted cost. Look at both to see the cost to date and what is still coming.
