In this article
Issuing material moves it out of a store and onto a project's cost. Each line leaves at the item's moving-average cost at that moment, and the value is charged to the project and the line's task.
Before you start
Map the material cost account in Project accounts.
The store must have its stock account set, as for any stock movement.
Issue for a material request
Open the approved request and select Issue from stock.
The lines start at what is still to supply. Lower a quantity to issue part of it.
Check the From store and the date, then select Issue to project.
Issue without a request
Go to Projects > Material Issues and select Issue material.
Choose the project, the store and the date, then the items and quantities. Each line can be charged to a task.
Select Issue to project.
A quantity above what the store holds is refused.
What is posted
Debit: the project's material cost account, tagged with the project and the task.
Credit: the store's stock account.
The issue appears in the project's cost by task and in its cost ledger, and the request's Issued column goes up.
Common questions
Why is the unit cost not today's price? Stock is valued at its moving average. The issue keeps the cost it left at, so a later return comes back at the same figure.
Can I issue to a closed project? No. Reopen the project first.
