A trading company lives in Sales and Inventory; a factory lives in Manufacturing. Menu Settings lets you shape the navigation around how your company works, without touching anyone's permissions.

The screen has two parts. Menu visibility controls the modules in the main bar at the top of the screen: their order, and whether each one shows in the bar or under More. Menu links shows or hides individual links in the sidebar.

Reorder the modules

  1. Open Administration › System › Menu Settings.

  2. In Menu visibility, drag a module by its handle (Drag to reorder) to a new position.

  3. Release it. The order is saved straight away and the message Menu order saved confirms it.

Move a module out of the main bar

  1. Find the module in Menu visibility.

  2. Switch off Visible in main bar. The module moves to the More list at the end of the top bar.

  3. Switch it on again to bring it back to the bar.

  1. Scroll to Menu links. The links are grouped by module.

  2. Switch off Show in menu next to a link your company never uses.

The link disappears from the sidebar for everyone. Switch it on again to restore it.

Good practice

  • Keep the five or six modules your staff open every day in the main bar, in the order of the work: for example Sales, Inventory, Purchasing, Accounting.

  • Hide links for features you have decided not to use, so new staff are not distracted by them.

  • Tell your team before a big change, because the menu changes for everyone at once.

Common questions

A colleague cannot see a module that is visible in the main bar. Their group has no permission for any screen in it. Grant the permission in Groups and permissions.

Can each user have their own menu order? No. The order and visibility apply to the whole company. What each user sees inside the menu still depends on their group.

Where can I learn how the menu works for users? See Find your way around.
