Two optional sections at the bottom of the item form change what happens when the item is sold. Has sub-items (BOM) makes the item a kit built from other items. Has commission pays the seller a commission on it.
Make an item a kit
A kit is sold as one line, for example a gift box with a mug and two packs of coffee. Its components leave stock together with it.
Open the item form from Add item, or from Edit on an existing item.
In Options, sub-items & commission, turn on Has sub-items (BOM).
Select Add component. Choose the Component item and enter the quantity in one kit.
Repeat for every component, then select Save.
What happens when you sell a kit
The invoice lists each component under the kit, at a price of zero. The customer pays the kit price.
Each component's stock is reduced by its quantity in the kit times the kit quantity sold.
If any component is short in the warehouse, the sale is refused and names the kit.
On branches that release stock through withdraw orders, the components leave stock when the withdraw order is approved.
Pay a commission on an item
In the same section, turn on Has commission.
Select Add commission and choose the user who earns it.
Choose the Commission type: Percentage or Fixed amount.
Enter the commission. For a percentage, enter the rate; for a fixed amount, enter the amount per unit sold.
Select Save.
How the commission is calculated
The commission is recorded for the user who creates the sales invoice, and only when a rule on the item applies to that user.
Percentage: the rate times the line's sale value.
Fixed amount: the amount times the quantity sold.
A rule for one user applies only to that user's sales. The commission is recorded per invoice line, so it follows the actual price and quantity sold.
Common questions
Where can I see a kit's components? On the Overview tab of the item profile, in the Has sub-items (BOM) card, with each component and its quantity.
I turned off Has sub-items (BOM). What happens to the components? They are removed from the item when you save. Past invoices keep the components they were posted with.
