A quality hold freezes a work order so nothing more happens to it until quality has had its say. While the hold is in place the order keeps all its data, but it cannot be released, started or completed, and its operations cannot be moved on the shop floor.

How a hold is placed

  • Manually, by a quality user, on an order that is In Progress.

  • Automatically, when a quality inspection on the order fails with the disposition Reject or Rework.

Either way, the list shows an On hold badge next to the order's status.

Place a hold

  1. Open Manufacturing › Production › Work Orders.

  2. On an in-progress order, open the actions menu, or open the order, and select Quality hold.

  3. In the Place quality hold panel, enter the Hold reason. Be specific, for example the defect seen and the batch affected.

  4. Select Place on hold.

The message Work order placed on hold confirms it. The reason, the user and the time are recorded on the order.

Release the hold

  1. Investigate and fix the cause. If units failed an inspection, record a new inspection once the problem is corrected.

  2. On the order, select Release hold.

  3. Confirm Release the hold on this work order?

The message Hold released confirms it, the badge disappears and the order can continue from where it stopped.

Common questions

The Complete action fails and says the order is on hold. Why? A hold is in place, either placed by hand or by a failed inspection with a reject or rework decision. Check the Quality Inspections tab of the order, then release the hold when the issue is resolved.

Does a hold reverse anything? No. It moves no stock and posts nothing. It only blocks the next steps.
