Report production on a work order
Record the good and scrapped units at each routing operation, so finished goods enter stock in step with the work and the order's progress is always current.

Reporting production records how many units each operation has finished and how many it rejected. You can report as often as you like during a run. Each report brings the newly finished units into stock, so sales and planning can see them before the whole order is done.
Before you start
The order must be Released or In Progress.
The materials for the output you report must already be issued. See Issue materials to a work order.
Steps
Open Manufacturing › Production › Work Orders and open the order.
Select Report production.
The panel lists every operation with its Work center. For each one enter:
Completed qty: the good units finished at this operation so far.
Scrapped qty: the units rejected at this operation.
Select Save production.
The message Production reported confirms the save.
How the quantities work
The figures are running totals for each operation, not the output of this shift. If an operation had 40 units and finished 25 more, enter 65.
A completed quantity can only go up. It cannot exceed the order's planned quantity.
The order's completed quantity is the lowest completed quantity across its operations, because a unit is finished only when every operation has processed it. Scrap is added up across operations.
Production can never exceed what the issued materials cover. If it would, the save is refused with a message that names the short components. Issue them first.
What each report does
Finished goods. The new good units since the last report enter the finished goods warehouse.
Scrap. Newly scrapped units are moved to the scrap warehouse and their cost is charged to the scrap expense account.
Cost. Unless Post on completion is switched on in the manufacturing settings, each report also charges the labor and overhead of the work done to the order, moves the cost of the finished units from work in progress to finished goods at the order's planned unit cost, and updates the product's average cost. Labor charged here becomes part of the product's cost.
Consumption. If Auto-backflush materials is on, the issued materials are consumed in proportion to the output.
Report from the shop floor
Operators can also start, pause and complete each operation from the shop floor dashboard, and record scrap there.
Common questions
I entered too high a quantity. Can I lower it? No. Completed quantities cannot decrease. Ask a supervisor to review the order before it is completed. If a wrong figure has already been completed, the order can be reversed. See Cancel or reverse a work order.
Why did no journal entry appear? Either Post on completion is on, in which case all cost entries post when the order is completed, or Post to accounting is off.
