The shop floor dashboard is the screen for supervisors and operators. It shows the factory by work center and lets you move each operation of a released order through its steps without opening the work order itself. The board refreshes itself every minute.

Before you start

  • Work orders appear here once they are Released or In Progress.

  • To act on operations you need the shop floor permission. Without it the board is read-only.

Read the board

Open Manufacturing › Production › Shop Floor Dashboard.

The shop floor dashboard with work center cards and the list of active work orders
  • Work centers: one card per work center, with its Type, Capacity, Efficiency and the number of Active operations. Bottleneck work centers carry a Bottleneck badge.

  • Active work orders: the released and in-progress orders, with their status and progress.

Work on an operation

  1. Click a work center card. A window lists the active operations at that work center, with the work order number and the operation's status.

  2. Use the button the operation offers:

    • Start for an operation that has not begun.

    • Pause to stop it for a while, and Resume to continue.

    • Complete when the operation is finished.

  3. When you select Complete, enter the Labor hours and Machine hours (both required). Optionally enter the Quantity completed and Quantity scrapped at this step. If you leave the quantity completed empty, the full planned quantity of the order is recorded. Then confirm with Complete.

The complete operation window with labor hours, machine hours and quantities

The hours and quantities are recorded on the operation and appear on the work order's Operations tab. Completing an operation does not receive finished goods into stock and does not complete the work order. When the last operation is completed, the system reminds you to finish the order from its Complete action.

Report scrap

  1. On an operation of an in-progress order, select Report scrap.

  2. Enter the Scrap quantity and the Reason, and choose a Scrap type if you classify scrap: material, process, handling, quality or equipment.

  3. Select Report scrap.

The scrapped stock moves to the scrap warehouse of the manufacturing settings, and its cost is charged to the scrap expense account. Report scrap only when it really happened. It moves stock and posts an entry straight away.

Log time

  1. Select Log time on an operation.

  2. Enter the Hours worked. Tick Setup time (not run time) if the time was spent preparing the work center. Add notes if needed.

  3. Select Log time. The message Time logged confirms it.

Common questions

Why is Report scrap missing on some operations? It is offered only for orders that are in progress or completed and not on a quality hold.

Do I still need the work order screen? Yes. The shop floor tracks the status, hours and quantities of each operation. Finished goods enter stock through Report production and Complete on the work order. See Report production on a work order.
