A performance review is a formal evaluation of one employee by one reviewer for a stated period. It moves through four stages: you create it, the employee's self-assessment is recorded, the manager completes the review with ratings and a recommendation, and the employee acknowledges the outcome. Each stage unlocks the next action, so a review can never skip a step on this screen.

Before you start

  • The employee and the reviewer must both exist as employees. See add an employee.

  • Agree the review period and the type of review (annual, mid-year, quarterly, probation or 360° feedback) before you create it.

Create the review

  1. Open People › Talent › Performance Management and select New Review.

  2. Choose the Employee and the Reviewer.

  3. Enter the Review Period as a label people will recognise, for example FY2026 or Q1 2026.

  4. Pick the Type, then set Period Start and Period End. The end must be on or after the start.

  5. Set the Review Date if it is not today. When you leave it empty, the system uses today's date.

  6. Select Save. The review is created as a draft.

The New Performance Review form with the employee, reviewer, review period, type and dates

While a review is still a draft you can correct it from the row's Actions menu with Edit. After the self-assessment is submitted, the review details are locked.

Record the self-assessment

  1. On the draft review, open Actions and select Self-assessment.

  2. Enter the Self rating (out of 5), the employee's Comments and their Achievements.

  3. Select Submit. The review moves to Manager Review Pending.

Ratings use a 0–5 scale, not a percentage. A rating above 5 is refused.

Complete the manager review

  1. On a review that is waiting for the manager, open Actions and select Manager Review.

  2. Enter the Manager rating (out of 5) and the Overall rating (out of 5).

  3. Choose a Recommendation: Promotion, Salary Increase, Bonus, Training, Performance Improvement Plan, Maintain or None.

  4. Add Manager Comments and a Development Plan.

  5. Select Submit. Submitting completes the review.

Acknowledge the result

  1. When the employee has read the completed review, open Actions and select Acknowledge.

  2. Confirm. The system records the acknowledgement with the date and time.

What happens next

The Performance Reviews list with the employee, reviewer, period, type, overall rating and status of each review
  • The overall rating appears in the list, and the full review, including the manager's comments, development plan and recommendation, stays readable through View details in every status.

  • The employee sees their own reviews on the My performance page of the self-service portal. See employee self-service.

  • A recommendation is a record, not an action. A promotion or salary increase changes pay only when you record it under appraisal cycles, in Promotions.

Common questions

Why is Edit greyed out? Only a draft review can be edited. Once the self-assessment is submitted, the period and type are part of the record.

Can the employee enter the self-assessment? On this screen HR or the manager records it on the employee's behalf. The employee reads the completed result in self-service.

Can I delete a review? Yes, Delete is available in every status and asks for confirmation. Deleting removes the review and its ratings permanently, so prefer keeping completed reviews.
