Training is an investment, and the Training and Training ROI tabs show whether it pays back. You record each course with its cost, mark it completed, enter the employee's daily output before and after, and the system turns those numbers into a return-on-investment percentage.
Record a training
Open People › Employees › Skills Matrix & Training ROI and select the Training tab.
Select New Training.
Choose the Employee and, if the course builds a specific skill, the skill from Select a skill.
Enter the Training name, the Provider, the Start Date and the End Date.
Enter the Cost and the Currency. The cost is required, even if it is 0.
Enter the Value per unit of output if you plan to measure the return.
Choose the Status and select Save.
A training moves through four statuses: Scheduled, In Progress, Completed and Cancelled. The list shows the Training, Employee, Period, Cost and status. Use Search training… to find a record.
Update the training when it ends
In the training's row, open the actions menu and select Update Training.
Set the Status to Completed.
Enter Productivity Before and Productivity After: the employee's average daily output, in the same unit, before and after the course.
Check the Cost and the Value per unit of output, add Notes, and select Save.
As the form reminds you: Capture productivity before and after and mark the training completed to feed the ROI report.
When a completed training is linked to a skill, the system closes any open skill gap of that employee for that skill on the gap analysis. It does not change the employee's proficiency level; record the new level with Assign Proficiency on the Skills tab.
How the return is calculated
The Training ROI tab lists every completed training that has both productivity figures. For each one:
Daily gain = productivity after − productivity before.
Monthly value = daily gain × 30 days × value per unit of output.
ROI % = (monthly value − cost) ÷ cost × 100.
For example, a course costing 2,000 that lifts output from 40 to 45 units a day, at 20 per unit, gives 5 × 30 × 20 = 3,000 of monthly value, so the ROI is (3,000 − 2,000) ÷ 2,000 × 100 = 50%.
The system projects the gain over 30 days whatever the length of the course, so a two-day course and a two-week course are compared on the same basis. A row shows Needs value per unit when the value per unit is missing, and Not computable when the cost is zero.
The two figures at the top are:
Total Training Cost: the cost of the trainings listed on this tab.
Average ROI %: the average of the rows that have an ROI. With none, it shows Not computable.
When no completed training has both productivity figures, the tab shows No completed training with before/after productivity captured.
Common questions
Why is a completed training missing from the ROI tab? It needs both Productivity Before and Productivity After. Open Update Training and add them.
Does training cost post to the accounts? No. Training records are for HR analysis. Record the supplier's invoice through purchasing or accounting as usual.
