Two register features keep the queue moving: holding a sale when a customer steps away, and selling offline when the connection drops.
Hold a sale and resume it
Use this when a customer has forgotten an item or needs to fetch money, and the next customer is waiting.
With items in the cart, select Held or press F8. The Held sales window opens.
Enter a Label, for example the Customer or trolley number. If you leave it empty, the customer's name or the time is used.
Select Hold sale. Sale held appears and the register is cleared for the next customer.
When the customer returns, open Held again and select Resume on their sale. The customer, price list, warehouse and lines come back, and stock is checked again.
To drop a basket the customer no longer wants, use Discard held sale.
Sell while offline
Your administrator decides whether the registers in a branch may sell offline, with Allow POS sales while offline under Administration › Configuration › Sales Invoice Settings. When it is on and the connection drops:
The register shows Offline — sales are being queued.
Keep selling as usual. Scanning works for items already shown in the catalogue during this session. Other items return Not found in what has been loaded. While offline only items already shown in the catalogue can be scanned.
When you complete a sale, Sale recorded. It will post when the connection returns. appears. The receipt prints an Offline reference and Invoice number to follow — this sale was recorded offline.
When the connection returns, the queued sales post on their own and receive their invoice numbers.
Check the queue
Select Queued to open Sales waiting to be posted.
Sync now posts the waiting sales at once, when you are back online.
A sale marked The server refused this sale was not posted, for example because stock ran out meanwhile. The money has already been taken, so it is never retried or dropped automatically. Fix the cause and select Try again.
Discard this sale removes a queued sale permanently after the warning This sale has already been paid for. Discarding it removes it permanently and it will never be posted. Continue? Use it only when you have settled that sale another way.
Nothing is waiting to be posted means every offline sale has posted.
Common questions
Our branch does not allow offline sales. What happens when the internet drops? The register cannot complete sales until the connection returns. Hold the baskets and resume them when you are back online.
Do offline sales use the right prices? Yes. Each line keeps the price, tax and discount it had when it was added, and the server checks the sale again when it posts.
